More visible progress.

In these pictures, taken October 26, more signs of progress are visible. In the first picture, you can see the south parking lot which has been poured since the last posting. The photographer is standing in the soon-to-be-
built Bertner Avenue. The second photo shows the west edge of the parking lot and the excavated area (with little green flag) for the sidewalk along Cecil Street. The third picture shows the west building with gutters installed. (Don't forget that you can double-click on a picture to see a larger version.)

In other events of the past week, the asbestos team checked out Building A and finished any work they needed to do there. That building will be demolished soon. The post office boxes in that building have been abandoned and the guests are now receiving mail in newly installed boxes in Building C. The most exciting news is that on Wednesday, October 24, 300,000 guest-apartment days had been provided in our 39 years of operation!

Apartment interiors

Here are some interior shots as the cabinets are beginning to be installed. The first picture shows part of the kitchen area. Two new features that the old apartment kitchens did not have are a window over the kitchen sink and an exhaust fan that vents to the outside. The second picture shows the louvered door to the air conditioning unit (door also seen in left side of picture one) and the built-in desk area. Finally, picture three shows the bathroom vanity.

More moving.

Monday, October 15. It was time for the movers to arrive. The first picture shows a nearly empty community room. (The fire extinguisher alerted everyone to the raised electrical box in the floor).














By noon, the room was about half full. There was room for the first group meal in the new community room as Jon Stevens (beard) and the movers shared pizza for lunch. Jon inadvertently wore a blue shirt so he fit right in with the movers.





By about three o'clock, all of the furniture and appliances had been moved from Building A into the community room for temporary storage until the apartments are ready for occupancy. Building A will be ready by October 22 for the demolition preparation to begin. Pictures three and four show the carefully arranged items. Everything was carefully fit together like a big puzzle to maximize the usage of space.




























The last picture shows the generous check donated by Gensler, our architect, being presented by David Calkins and O'Neal Furr and accepted by Joe Hightower. Gensler's invitational golf tournament, held last Saturday, benefited Hospitality Apartments. Thank you, Gensler.

We're moving!

We wondered if the day would come . . . and it has. On Thursday, October 11, the office was moved and by the end of the weekend, the Hunters had gotten it pretty well organized. In picture one you see a tired-
but-happy-to-
have-the-office-
moved crew. The new office is very nice and light. It's temperature controlled without the noise of a wall unit. We even have new phones with numbers that haven't been worn off! Soon the volunteers hope to master the new two-line telephone system.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen the Gearharts have worked very hard lining all of the cabinets and drawers, washing dishes and getting things organized and put away. They will tell you that there are many square feet of storage space!

Tomorrow (Monday, October 15) the movers are coming to move all of the furniture and large boxes of packed items out of Building A into the new community room building. Jon Stevens, moving organizer, has it planned that everything will fit! We'll hope that he is right! By next weekend everything has to be out of Building A so that the building can be readied for demolition. Stay tuned as we continue to occupy the new building.
