Puddles, mud and new siding

Although the rain delayed the beginning of the construction project back in December and January and recent rain provided puddles (notice the reflection in picture 1) and mud, it is not stopping us now! The first picture shows the completed siding on the end of the west building. Notice the two textures. You can also see how the staircases are being enclosed. The second picture shows some of the siding on the courtyard side of the east building. Don't forget to click on the pictures if you want a full screen view.

Then and Now

Just in case you've forgotten . . . The first picture was taken February 28 as the workers were getting ready to pour the foundations. If you remember, we had a lot of rain in December and January and the cement pouring was delayed. The other pictures were taken June 8. Second picture shows the two apartment buildings and the courtyard area in between them. The third picture is the Cecil Street side of the west apartment building. Picture four is the port-cochere in front of the community building. In picture five you can see that the stairwells are partially enclosed. The gray area above the community building (upper right of picture) is the elevator shaft. It is anticipated that the office will move to the community building sometime in July and that current building A (apartments 1-8) will be demolished in early August. (Don't forget that you can click on the picture to make it full screen size.)

Skin!

"Skin" is the official construction name for the outside of the building. In picture one you can see the siding going up on the west apartment building (Cecil St. side). If you click on the picture to enlarge it, you can see that there are different textures in different places. Also notice the "tracks" with the platforms that are used instead of regular scaffolding. In picture two you can see the stairways, courtyard area and the connections between the two apartment buildings. In picture three the porte cochere is beginning to take place. How nice to have a way to enter under cover! The last picture shows the community room/office building on the right and the north end of the apartment buildings with the covered walkways between. These walkways are ten feet wide. FYI The only area on campus where smoking will be allowed will be on the fourth story walkway between the buildings. That area will provide a safe, covered smoking area what should be well ventilated as it will be open on both sides.
