Fourth floor is up!

The first picture shows the roof trusses waiting to be installed. You can get a sense of scale from the brown port-a-potty in the background. Pictures two and three show the sides of the apartments that will be facing the courtyard. You can see that the fourth story is being framed. The workmen don't have to carry all of that plywood up the stairs -- you can see the lift delivering it. In the second picture you can get an idea of the walkway outside the fronts of the apartments (on the left of the picture). PS I just now discovered that if you click on the picture, you will get a full screen version of it!

It's all about perspective!

Sunny days are bringing lots of progress. Here are a few views. The pictures taken from the north show a big community room/office building! Outside, it is about 18 feet to the roof. Inside, in the community room, the ceiling will be 11 feet above the floor. You can get an idea from the first two pictures of the windows. In the first picture, the smallest window, furthest right, will be in the office. The window next to it is in the entry, right outside the office. In the second picture, you can see that the community room/office building is almost as big as the 3 stories behind it. Or maybe not. Look at the third picture (taken from the south). The community room has definitely shrunk! And there are those perspective lines that your art teacher was always talking about. Whatever way you look at them, it's pretty exciting to see the buildings going up!

Going up!

The buildings are going up! The first picture is taken from the east side (gray construction trailer just visible on the right -- current apartments are to the north [right]). This is the back side of the building and the window openings are in the bedrooms. The next picture shows the courtyard. The trusses for the second story ceiling/third story floor are in the middle. The two men (red shirt and other) are standing on part of the walkway that is outside the apartments. Both apartment buildings face the courtyard with the entrance doors and living room/kitchen areas on these sides. The community room/office building (partially green walls) is at the northern end of the courtyard. The last picture shows the east apartment building and in the left background, the community/office building. Trusses for the east building are visible in the middle right of picture. The small window opening is over the kitchen sink. The larger window opening is in the living room. The doorway is in between the two windows. Jon Stevens and Frances and John Hunter braved the mud last Friday to tour the buildings (with their hard hats on) and were amazed at the size of the new community room.

It was a beautiful spring day and as you can see in the first picture, the roses are in bloom! The second picture shows all three buildings-- it's taken from the south looking to the north. The current office is on the other side of the building with the green "paper" on it. The next two pictures show the two apartment buildings. The next picture is a closer view of the east apartment building. Next is a view into the community building. The office will be on the other side of the interior window. Finally, a picture of the new community room. (Note that there are no center poles!)
