More progress!

In just a couple of days, some of the lumber from the lumber yard (first picture) is now being formed into walls! The second picture shows the plywood on the walls of the new community room/office building. A sense of the height can be gained when you realize that the green treated sheets on the bottom of the walls are eight feet tall. The elevator shaft behind will be 44 feet tall when finished. The next three pictures show walls beginning to appear on the east apartment building. And finally, we noticed a neighbor checking the progress of the project! This little fellow is very friendly. He and his brother (or sister?) were playing outside the office and even scampering between the photographer's shoes.

Vertical lumber!

We have vertical lumber aka walls! The first picture shows the walls of the community room/office building taking shape. The elevator shaft is rising behind it. This picture is taken from the balcony of existing building A. The second picture is taken from the other side. The elevator shaft with the openings for the first three floors can be seen (two elevators). The community room/office building is to the right of the elevator shaft. The slab for the east apartment building is in the foreground. Existing building A can be seen behind the pole on the right edge of the picture. Progress!

We've got lumber and cement blocks!

Lumber is arriving on the site and soon we'll see walls going up. Meanwhile a tower of cement blocks is being made. It's the elevator shaft. As shown, it's about two stories tall. It is located at the north end of the west four story building. The community room/office building will be north of the elevator. Office volunteers are able to watch the progress out the office window as they report to work each week.

The foundation slabs are poured. In the foreground is the slab for the community room/office building. In the background are the slabs for the two 4-story apartment buildings. The wooden box in the back right slab marks the location of the elevators.

In the first two pictures you can see the preparation for pouring the slab. Under the plastic, there is a termite treatment. In picture one, the area in the foreground is for the community room/office building. Picture two shows the west four-story apartment building. You can see the elevator shaft in the foreground. This area is pictured in the background of picture one. In picture three, the crew is beginning to pour the cement for the community room/office building. In picture four they are working the cement for that building. Every little bit of progress we can see gets us closer to a probably September finish date.
